Towards a Smart Future: Foundations of AI for the University Generation

"Towards a Smart Future: Foundations of AI for the University Generation" is a project that aims to guide university students at Università Cattolica to understand the opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence (AI), a technology that is redefining the very fabric of our societies, economies and personal lives.
Organised by the University's Humane Technology Lab and Teaching and Learning Lab, it will be offered to students during the 2024/2025 academic year. The underlying objective is the development of a critical awareness of the ethical and social impacts related to the spread of artificial intelligence.
In line with the National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence (AI) 2024-2026, which envisages, among other actions, widespread teaching on AI in university degree courses, the project aims to make the main concepts of AI accessible to students of all disciplines and at the same time to provide the most relevant skills needed to use the main AI tools.
Project Activities
This pioneering initiative is divided into three interconnected activities, designed to offer a holistic understanding of AI, from its technical underpinnings to ethical and social impacts.
- Course "AI: First Steps in the World of Artificial Intelligence", intended for newly enrolled students of the Bachelor's Degrees of the Catholic University of Milan for the academic year 2024/2025. It includes two editions of 8 hours each, divided into two days of training.
- Course "Curious Minds: Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence for Multidisciplinary Students", intended for all students of Università Cattolica for the academic year 2024/2025. Lasting a total of 24 hours, divided into 6 meetings.
- The series of conferences "CyberHorizons: Explorations of the Impact of the Digital World on Society and Professions", three meetings open to both university students and alumni as well as to the external public, aims to provide insights into the impact of AI in different areas of society. Through dialogue with industry experts, these conferences will provide a platform to discuss the opportunities and challenges posed by AI, fostering a broader understanding of its long-term effects.
The activities of the project include the assignment of Open Badges.
