The conference of Università Cattolica on the human side of digital technologies
On Tuesday, May 10th, the conference Humane Robotics: the human side of digital technologies was held at the Aula Pio XI of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart. The initiative, promoted by the Humane Technology Lab, was an opportunity to present "Humane Robotics: A multidisciplinary approach toward the development of human-centered technologies" the volume edited by Prof. Giuseppe Riva and Prof. Antonella Marchetti.
The event was enriched by the presence of prestigious experts from academia, business, and institutions: Msgr. Vincenzo Paglia, President of the Pontifical Academy for Life; Giorgio Metta, Scientific Director of the Italian Institute of Technology; Riccardo Luna, Director of Italian Tech and Green&Blue; and Roberto Vavassori, Chief Officer Public Affairs and Institutional Relations of Brembo.
The meeting, moderated by Annachiara Sacchi, a Corriere della Sera journalist, provided interesting insights into the relationship between humans and technology. «On nuclear weapons, we reached an agreement; the same happened with climate change. Now we must manage to find an agreement on Artificial Intelligence amongst Heads of State and Prime Ministers,» said Bishop Vincenzo Paglia. On the other hand, Riccardo Luna framed the human-robot relationship by arguing that «robots do not steal our jobs, but if anything, they change them to make us live better.» A concept also supported by Giorgio Metta, who said that robots «can become a helper of the human being, relieving him or her from exhausting and repetitive work.»
