HTLab joins CLAIRE and the Rome Call for AI Ethics

Humane Technology Lab is preparing to close its first year of activity with two important milestones: the Laboratory directed by Professor Giuseppe Riva has officially joined the European Confederation of Artificial Intelligence Research Laboratories (CLAIRE) and the Rome Call for AI Ethics.
The CLAIRE network brings together 435 laboratories and institutions from 37 countries, which work with the aim of strengthening European Artificial Intelligence (AI) research compared to that of other global competitors and, above all, with the aim of ensuring responsible, reliable AI that is truly at the service of people. From this point of view, HTLab's entry into CLAIRE is doubly strategic, as it makes Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore the first Italian non-technological university to join the Confederation. A sign of how the focus on the human-centric dimension is now essential for the development of Artificial Intelligence and the technologies of the future.
Recently, Università Cattolica, through HTLab, joined as a supporter of the Rome Call for AI Ethics. On 28 February 2020, the Pontifical Academy for Life, Microsoft, IBM, FAO and the Ministry of Technological Innovation (MITD) signed the strategic document that aims to support an ethical approach to Artificial Intelligence and promote a sense of responsibility among organizations, governments, institutions and the private sector, with the aim of creating a future where digital innovation and technological progress serve genius and creativity and not their gradual replacement. The initiative targets three areas in particular (Education, Ethics and Rights) based on six key principles: transparency, inclusion, accountability, impartiality, accountability and privacy.
