The interview with Prof. Riva on La Repubblica: a current analysis on social networks

Prof. Giuseppe Riva, an expert in the Psychology of Communication and engaged in research on the dynamics between the human and technology, was interviewed for La Repubblica about the latest events related to social media and in particular in the context of one of the major cases of current affairs.

The interview explores fundamental issues, from the transformation of screen-mediated sociality to the new construction of online identity. The Director of HT Lab analyzes the powerful impact of social networks, focusing on the challenges they pose for the younger generation.

With regard to the Pedretti case, the Professor underlines how the emotional response of the public influences the perception of the news and highlights how the change in sociability, the absence of physical emotional signals, the race to build a network of followers, have contributed to the rapid cycle of fame and fall online: "That's why on social media you triumph and fall in just 72 hours".

The discussion also delves into the nature of fake news, the role of news virality, and criticizes the lack of regulation and ethics in the online landscape, raising the question of accountability related to the power that comes with digital influence.

The full interview is available on the La Repubblica website.
