About

The University Centre for the social teaching of the Church was founded in 2006, collecting the legacy of the previous research centre active since 1991, with the aim of deepening and promoting the social tradition of the Catholic Church.

The Centre is a place for reflection and research, where the rich and articulated disciplinary skills that are cultivated in various departments of Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore can meet and dialogue in the light of the social teaching of the Church. This constant dialogue makes it possible to concretely experience the trans-disciplinary work that is so necessary today, in order to face the complex social and anthropological problems of our time.

Many researchers and lecturers collaborate with our Centre, and are involved both in the organization of events, seminars and webinars, and as Authors of the journal Dictionary of the Social Teaching of the Curch. The new things of the XXI century. Here you can visit the updated list of Authors. Our initiatives can also count on a network of international collaborations, well represented by the members of the International Scientific Commitee of the journal.

The social doctrine of the Church is a precious resource, that people and communities can use for learning how to live as protagonists in the “change of epoch” we are going through. People that work and study in universities especially need to deeply understand change and be able to direct and govern change. Called by its very nature to be a real community of teachers and students, the University offers everyone, young and old, the opportunity to participate in the adventure of discernment: “test everything; hold fast what is good”. This how each of us, in its own way, becomes protagonist of the common construction of the good of the “all of us” who together constitute the human family.

The activities of the University Centre for the social doctrine of the Church include:

Multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary researches and reflections, where theologians and philosophers, scholars of social issues - economists, political scientists, sociologists, jurists - and scholars of sciences and technologies can meet and contaminate each other. This is urgent today, as we need to explore the anthropological and social dimensions of the “new things” we face;

Different editorial initiatives, which make research and reflection work available and accessible to those who wish to live their social commitment and public role with mature awareness;

Communication and training initiatives, such as study days, seminars, national and international conferences, scientific and cultural. These initiatives involve the university community and the wider public and are often realized in collaboration with local and national associations.
