Curious Minds: Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence for Multidisciplinary Students

This course provides an in-depth overview of Artificial Intelligence (AI), exploring its social, ethical, and legal implications. Structured into four modules, it covers the history of AI, practical applications, and advanced tools while encouraging critical reflection on the impact of AI in contemporary society.

Organized by the Teaching and Learning Lab (TeLeLab) - which contributes to teaching improvement and innovation, and the Humane Technology Lab (HTLab) - which investigates the relationship between human experience and technology, the course will be held in person at the Milan campus of Università Cattolica. It consists of six sessions of four hours each, totaling 24 hours, from October to December 2024.

Objectives

  • Provide a historical and conceptual understanding of AI evolution.
  • Develop practical skills in using advanced AI tools.
  • Promote critical reflection on AI’s social, ethical, and legal implications.
  • Explore AI applications in multidisciplinary contexts.
  • Encourage debate on AI-related regulatory and policy challenges.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the historical development of AI.
  • Gain hands-on experience with AI tools.
  • Critically assess AI’s ethical and social implications.
  • Examine legal challenges related to AI regulation.
  • Apply a multidisciplinary perspective to evaluate AI’s impact across various fields.

Structure

  • Duration: 24 hours total, divided into six 4-hour sessions.
  • Schedule: October 26, November 9, 16, 23, 30, and December 14, 2024.
  • Mode: In-person at the Milan campus; live streaming available at the Brescia, Cremona, and Piacenza campuses.
  • Registration deadline: Wednesday, October 23, 2024.
  • Open Badge: Awarded to participants who attend at least four out of six in-person sessions, certifying acquired knowledge and skills.
